Chic Shack: 7 Tips To Improve The Style Of Your Modern Cabin

What comes to mind when you hear the word cabin? Of course, snuggling under a cozy blanket with cocoa, or a twilight picnic under the stars depending on the season. And it may also conjure up images of dark wood walls and checkered prints or plaids.

While there’s nothing wrong with the rustic, traditional look, it may be time for an update in terms of decor. Here are 7 tips to improve the style of your modern cabin:

Tip #1: Wood Goes White

Wood walls get a bright update with several coats of “generic factory white primer.” Leave the window trim in its natural state, add some light wood and white furniture, and you’ve got a modern, clean, updated look that still says cozy cabin.

Tip #2: Little Elements Equal Big Cabin Kitchen Update

These metal cabinets are original to the cabin and the owner loved them. To update, she added leather pulls (love!) and a patterned tile backsplash that goes all the way to the ceiling. The new pendant light replaced the ceiling light. How gorg is this?

Tip #3: Go Darker

Uh huh, we said it. Go Darker. Refresh the room by painting wood beams black. Looks pretty cool if you ask us. Then, a few pieces of modern rustic furniture and you’ve got a cabin update extraordinaire.

Tip #4: Glam It

What gives a rustic space instant, updated appeal? A glam sofa smack in the middle of the room. Don’t you love how it works with the stone wall and natural wood?

Tip #5: Everything Old is New Again

A couple of swipes of sky-blue paint. That’s all it took to modernize this super cute cabin kitchen without losing the integrity of the natural decor. Paint the door and a few drawers and poof! Easy, impactful cabin transformation.

Tip #6: All The Way Up

This one may not be an easy update, but it sure packs a big punch if you’re up for it. Add a floor-to-ceiling fireplace. S’mores, here we come.

Tip #7: SS Appliance and Wood

If your cabin has been in the family awhile, it might be time for new appliances. Stainless steel works unbelievably well in this woody kitchen. Add some pops of green nature from outside to your table for extra updated cabin appeal.
